ROGER RINGHAM

Assistant Director

In addition to his role as Head of Service for SAFE, Roger is the Chair of the NHS South West Region Security Management Group, which comprises of over fifty NHS Service Provider / Commissioning Organisations; and is the Chair of the National Association for Healthcare Security (NAHS), which has over 700 UK members and links to organisations in Europe, the USA and New Zealand. 

Roger is accredited as both a Security Management and Counter Fraud Specialist and has worked with NHS England to review NHS Security Management Standards and aspects of Conflict Resolution Training. 
He has delivered on a number of major projects for the NHS, Local Government Authorities and the private sector which includes: 

Violence Prevention and Reduction Strategy: resulting in a 61% reduction in incidents and a significant decline in sickness / absence and staff recruitment / retention issues.

Lone Working and Personal Safety: which included risk assessing >6000 staff as low, medium or high risk and implementation of a raft of measures Inc. the procurement / implementation of training and technical support for >2,500 staff.

GARY THOMPSON

Client Engagement Lead (Security)

Gary joined the NHS in 2005 and is accredited as both a Security Management and Counter Fraud Specialist having previously served in the Royal Navy and the Police service providing an investigative, problem-solving and partnership working background. 

During his career in the NHS Gary has worked and engaged with staff across several organisations in the acute, primary care, community sectors and social care to resolve security management issues. 
Gary has delivered training sessions across the different NHS sectors in lone working, personal security and security management.

PETE PASKIN

Client Engagement Lead (Security)

Having previously worked for Avon and Somerset Constabulary where he served as a police sergeant, Pete has a solid background in investigations, management, leadership, problem solving crime prevention and demand reduction. He chaired a multi-agency problem solving group in which led to a 10% reduction in crime. 

Pete delivers bespoke Conflict Resolution Training to our client base with excellent feedback. Pete is an Accredited Security Management and Counter Fraud Specialist. In 2019/20 Pete was awarded NAHS security manager of the year and was subsequently a finalist at the OSPA’s (Outstanding Security Performance Awards.)

SHAWN WHITLEY

Client Engagement Lead (Security)

Shawn joins the NHS as a Security Management Specialist having recently left his role as an Inspector with Dorset Police. He served 27 years in a variety of CID and uniform roles with Sussex and Dorset Police. 

For the last 12 years Shawn served as a Police Inspector leading Patrol and Neighbourhood Teams across Dorset. Shawn brings with him a wealth of knowledge in criminal investigation, crime management, crime prevention, problem solving and partnership working. His skills are wholly transferable to the role of Security Management Specialist and he is ready to assist your organisation. Shawn is also an Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist.

LAURA SMITH

Clinical Violence Prevention Specialist

Laura joins the SAFE team as a Clinical Violence Prevention Specialist, bringing clinical experience from 17 years working in the NHS in a variety of clinical roles. She qualified as an Occupational Therapist and worked in a variety of settings spanning community care, acute hospitals and mental health. Laura subsequently graduated as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, and has worked in Child and adolescent mental health, the ambulance service and latterly as a patient safety advisor. 

Laura is passionate about reducing violence and aggression within the workplace which will improve the experience of patients and staff. She has gained success observing patient behaviour, then using data to help ensure that complex patient care is managed effectively, combined with staff training, support and carer involvement. She is a TEAR practitioner and will facilitate staff debrief after traumatic or stressful events.

ANDY KNIGHT

Head of Counter Fraud / Client Engagement Lead (Fraud)

Andy has 23 year's experience as a Certified Counter Fraud Specialist in the civil service, health care, insurance, retail and charity sectors. CFPAB registered and a former Deputy National Project Manager with NHS Protect. 

Andy brings a wealth of experience to the role of Client Engagement Lead/Counter Fraud Specialist, including; covert surveillance, criminal investigation, fraud prevention, training and project management expertise. Andy is a TCM accredited and Acas trained investigator and also holds a City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

CHARLOTTE PARK

Office Manager, Communications & Events Coordinator

Charlotte has extensive experience working in marketing and communications and is a qualified Graphic Designer. She brings a wealth of experience to the role including; event management, social media, brand management, media liaison, photography, contract management, design, and day to day office management.

In addition to her role for SAFE, Charlotte is the Secretariat for the National Association for Healthcare Security (NAHS) and the NHS South West Region Security Management Group.
